Venture Finance and Early-Stage Funding Gaps in the CIS Region

Abstract

We analyse the structure of early-stage venture funding in the CIS and document a persistent gap between seed and growth rounds. Using a combination of deal-level data and founder interviews, we show how syndication mitigates risk for investors while constraining the pace of company growth. The article discusses policy and market mechanisms that could narrow the gap.
